Important Deadlines for Students Interested in Child Life

Students wishing to become Certified Child Life Specialists (CLS) are advised to complete a Child Life Practicum (150 hours) while enrolled in school (this should be completed for FCD 4301).  Once the student completes his/her bachelor’s degree, he/she must complete a Child Life Internship (a minimum of 480 hours) under the supervision of a Certified CLS and then sit for the Child Life Certification Exam.  Please see www.childlife.org for additional information.

Please keep the following information in mind:

FCD 4301: Internship should be completed no more than one semester prior to graduation.

Although you are registering for an internship course (FCD 4301), if you are interested in Child Life, you should request a Child Life Practicum. Remember, the child life internship is not completed until after you have completed your undergraduate degree.

The Child Life Practicum is extremely competitive. Therefore, it is recommended that you apply to more than one hospital.
