Admission Requirements
To be eligible for admission to the Texas State Dietetic Internship program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
- 2 Official transcripts from each college or university attended
- Verification of completion or Intent to Complete a Didactic Program in Dietetics prior to the beginning of the Dietetic Internship (see your DPD director)
- Admission to the Graduate College at Texas State
- Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0
Post-Acceptance Requirements - Negative Tb test
- Negative drug screening urinalysis
- Criminal background check
- Immunization for Hepatitis B, mumps, measles, and tetanus
Program Completion Requirements - Attainment of entry-level performance through completion of approximately 1,100 hours of supervised practice
- Completion of 18 hours of graduate coursework (9 of which can be applied to the MS in Human Nutrition)

Application Procedures
To apply for the program, candidates must complete the following steps:
- A completed application and ADA Supervised Practice Program Application and Recommendation Forms (download link in above paragraph).
- 2 Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- Typed letter of personal intent and professional goals
- Resume
- Three letters of reference: two from nutrition and foods faculty; one from a work or practicum supervisor.
- Participate in a personal or telephone interview with the Selection Committee if necessary.
- Participate in a computer-matching program. This program has a processing fee of $50. (Information about this program is available from ADA-approved/accredited didactic programs; or from D&D Digital Systems, 304 Main Street, Suite 301, Ames, Iowa 50010-6148). Projected Expenses*
A student accepted for admission to the Dietetic Internship at Texas State can anticipate the following expenses:
- Program Application fee - $40 (non-refundable)
- Tuition and fees for 18 semester hours of graduate credit* - $4,964 (Texas Resident) $9,950 (Non-resident)
- General property fee - $10
- Professional liability insurance - $35
- Meals, housing and transportation
- Car in good running condition. - Expect to drive about 12,000 miles for classes and rotations if living in San Marcos
- Textbooks and other supplies - $750
- Registration for professional meetings (varies) - $150
- American Dietetic Association - Associate Membership Fee - (optional) - $43
- Immunizations - $100
- Drug Screening - $45
- Criminal Background Check -$35 (Depending on number of counties of residence)
*These costs are projected for the 2008-2009 academic year and are subject to change.
Financial Assistance
- Students enrolled in the Texas State Dietetic Internship are eligible to apply to some types of financial aid. Contact www.finaid.txstate.edu
- 25% time graduate assistantships are available to students enrolled in the Dietetic Internship.
- Dietetic Interns are hired to provide nutrition counseling at the Texas State Student Health Center.
- Applications for assistantships and student health center employment are taken after appointment to Dietetic Internship.
- Scholarships are available from the American Dietetic Foundation and from the Texas Dietetic Association Foundation.
