
Judy L. Allen, Professor and Program Coordinator in Family and Consumer Science, has been a faculty member at Texas State for 28 years. She received her B.S. degree in Teacher Education from Southwest Texas State University, an M.S. in Family Economics and Management from University of Missouri, and a Ph. D. in Home Economics from Texas Tech University.
Classes currently taught include Consumers in the Marketplace, Family and Personal Resource Management, Family Policy, Financial Counseling for Family Practitioners, and Family Finance.
Her research interests included credit usage by college students and financial management techniques of individuals and families.
Dr. Allen has served as President of the American Council on Consumer Interest, President of Texas Home Economics Association, and President of the Southwest Texas Alumni Association and is a Certified in Family and Consumer Science by the American Association of Family and Consumer Science. In 1996, the Texas Home Economics Association named Dr. Allen Home Economist of the Year, the highest award given by the association.
In addition to the research interests listed above, Dr. Allen is very involved in public policy as it relates to individuals and families. Currently she is President of the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District, serves as Vice President of Public Policy and Marketing for the Texas Home Economics Association, and is a member of Public Policy committee for American Association of Family and Consumer Science.
Prior to coming to Texas State, Dr. Allen taught at Texas A&I Kingsville, (currently Texas A&M at Kingsville) and the University of Houston.
