School of Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarships

Applications for scholarships for all majors housed in the School of Family and Consumer Sciences will be accepted online via BoSS until February 15th and awarded for the following school year. You will be notified by email between April and May if you have been selected. Please contact Dr. Alfaro (ea21@txstate.edu) if you have questions about the scholarships listed below.

Betty A. Luxton Endowed Scholarship – Established to provide financial assistance to students based on significant financial need. The scholarships are to provide support to help students stay in college, make reasonable progress and contribute to the possibility of having successful careers. Must be a Texas resident, complete at least 12 credit hours, have a GPA of 2.75 or above, and show a degree of financial need. A recipient will be given preference to renew the scholarship again if he or she meets the following criteria for up to (3) years: Texas resident, completion of at least 24 college credit hours, a GPA of 2.75 or above, continued financial aid.

Azlete and Bryon Little Scholarship - The recipient must be a Consumer Science or FCS Education major with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be an undergraduate enrolled full-time (12 hours or more), be in good standing with the University, and show financial need.

Esther Roberts Broome Scholarship - Established to give opportunity to less privileged single mother undergraduates majoring in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department at Texas State to enhance their educational opportunities by providing financial assistance.

Evelyn L. Hearn Scholarship - This scholarship helps subsidize travel expenses to permit one or more undergraduates to attend professional meetings. A recipient must demonstrate potential for professional leadership through involvement in student organizations, be enrolled full-time (12 hours or more), be in good standing with the University, and have a GPA of 2.5 or more. Preference is given to Consumer Science majors and Phi U members.

Family and Child Development Scholarship- A junior or senior majoring in Family and Child Development, a GPA of 2.5 or higher, be enrolled full-time (12 hours or more), and be in good standing with the University. Preference will be given to individuals underrepresented in the field.

Family and Consumer Sciences Endowed scholarship - Each year contributions by alumni, faculty, organizations, and mentors fund scholarships in this category. The greater the contributions, the more-and larger- the scholarships can be! This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students whose major resides in the School of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Fashion Merchandising Endowed Scholarship - Each year contributions by alumni, faculty, organizations, and mentors fund scholarships in this category. The greater the contributions, the more-and larger- the scholarships can be! This scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate students (12 hours or more) with a minimum 2.5 Texas State GPA who is in good University standing.

Helen Buck Campbell Scholarship in FCS - A recipient must be of junior or senior standing within Family and Consumer Sciences with a GPA of 2.0 and higher, be enrolled full-time (12 hours or more), be in good standing with the University, and show financial need. At Dr. Campbell’s request, preference is given to Hispanic students.

Joan Terry FCS Endowed Leadership Award - Established to recognize undergraduates in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department displaying exceptional leadership ability. A sophomore, junior, or senior level Family and Consumer Sciences major may be nominated by faculty or a departmental student organization. Nominees must have established record of outstanding leadership and show potential for continued growth. Nominee must be a full-time student (12 hours or more) and a strong academic record must have been established.

Kohl’s Department Store Internship Scholarship - This scholarship was established for undergraduates majoring in Fashion Merchandising at Texas State University. Recipient of this award must be a full-time (12 hours per semester) student enrolled at Texas State University and classified as a sophomore, junior or senior in good standing with the University.  Preference will be given to Texas State students that have been selected to participate in the Kohl’s Internship Program.

Kohl’s Department Store Leadership Scholarship - This scholarship was established for undergraduates majoring in Fashion Merchandising at Texas State University.  Recipient of this award must be a full-time (12 hours per semester) student enrolled at Texas State University and classified as a sophomore, junior or senior in good standing with the University.  Recipient must demonstrate potential for professional leadership through leadership in student organizations.  Preference will be given to students who are or have been officers in official departmental student organizations.

Kohl’s Department Store Scholarship - This scholarship was established for undergraduates majoring in Fashion Merchandising at Texas State University with demonstrated financial need. Recipient of this award must be a full-time (12 hours per semester) student enrolled at Texas State University and classified as a sophomore, junior or senior in good standing with the University.

Nelwyn B. Moore, Ph.D Endowed Presidential Scholarship - This scholarship was established for undergraduates pursuing careers as Family Life Educators in an academic setting. Recipient of this award must be majoring in Family and Consumer Science and have a GPA of at least 3.0. As part of the application student must submit an essay on the value of a career as a family educator, also describe his/her community service work. Student can be of freshman, sophomore and junior standing.

Phi U Endowment (Phi U Leadership Endowment) - This scholarship was established for undergraduates to be awarded to a deserving Texas State student in the Family and Consumer Sciences department. The Phi U Organization should be a consulting participant for the recipient selected.
 

Phi Upsilon Omicron Award Fund - This scholarship was established for undergraduate students who are members of Phi U. Recipient of this award must have a GPA of at least 3.25. Preference will be given to Texas State students who have declared majors in Family & Child Development.

Robbie and Charles Zunker FCS Endowed Scholarship - Scholarships are awarded each year to students majoring in Interior Design, Nutrition/ Foods, Consumer Science, and Fashion Merchandising who are a qualified undergraduate students with financial need. Applicants may be of sophomore, junior or senior standing, enrolled full-time (12 hours or more), be in good standing with the University, and high academic achievement.

Note: The availability and funds for each scholarship vary each year.

School of Family and Consumer Sciences Work Study Awards

Betty A. Luxton Undergraduate Work-Study Award - Created to encourage young people to pursue their educational goals. These students will be nominated by the faculty and selected by the School Director based on high school GPA, a letter of application and financial need. Students may reapply for the work-study award provided they maintain a 3.0 GPA and satisfactory work performance.
