The forum provides a full day of career planning and networking opportunities, with keynote speakers from leading fashion retailers.

Careers, Careers, Careers! The opportunities are abundant! If a fast-paced, ever-changing environment appeals to you, then look no further than a major in Fashion Merchandising. Fashion Merchandising majors explore all areas of fashion from manufacturing to retailing and investigate a variety of products from concept to consumer.
Fashion Merchandising graduates are prepared for a variety of careers in fashion marketing and sales, retail management, buying and promotions. Students have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience through computer-based assignments, field trips, speakers, internships, and travel study. Majors are required to complete a business administration minor to enhance their preparation for the fashion industry. Fashion Merchandising majors benefit from a variety of resources. The program faculty members have substantial academic and professional work experience in retailing; and the program receives strong industry support through the Fashion Merchandising Development Board.
All Fashion Merchandising majors must maintain a Texas State GPA of 2.25 in order to enroll in FM courses. A one-time only waiver can be requested through the departmental advisor prior to registration.
The research faculty in the Fashion Merchandising area work with students who are pursing graduate education through the Sustainability Studies interdisciplinary graduate program. Students interested in sustainable product development, socially responsible global sourcing and corporate social responsibility for fashion brands should contact one of the graduate faculty to discuss their options.
Steve Lovell is President and Chief Operating Officer of Charming Charlie. In this role, he oversees the senior leaders responsible for Store Operations, Sourcing and Manufacturing, Distribution, Logistics, Real Estate, Construction and Marketing.
Mr. Lovell joined Charming Charlie in 2006, bringing with him over 25 years of retail experience across virtually every function in the business. This experience has proven invaluable in helping to manage the exponential growth of the Charming Charlie brand.
Prior to joining the company, Mr. Lovell served as President of Murray’s Jewelry, an independently owned retailer based in Redford, Michigan. From June 1995 to April 2000, he served as Vice Chairman and Chief Store Operations Officer of Stage Stores Inc., a regional department store with annualized sales of $1.2 billion.
Born in Houston, Mr. Lovell attended LeTourneau University and Illinois State University. He resides in The Woodlands with his wife and children and is an active supporter of the American Heart Association.
